The cab.

Turning the cab into a rotisserie.

With this wee setup you can spin the cab 360 degrees the work on it. The drivers floor was beyond repair so I bought one from E.S.M. The passenger floor was not so bad. I learnt a lot by taken this project on. The first thing was you can’t weld rust. So any rust that was found was cut out and replaced with new steel.both sills had to be replaced as well as the bottom end where the front guards bolt on. The one thing that surprised me was there was no rust around where the door hinges bolt on.

Trying to see if the grill fits.

Got cab back on chassis. It had been in a wee fender bender so had to straighten it up. Just seeing if grill will fit properly and the bumper goes on straight.

Finally got the motor and gearbox (ribbed one) in place. 29/03/2020

Painted as the day was about 19c. Will need a very lite sand and another quick touch up and it should look a million dollars. The motor and gearbox have been waiting for this day for over three years.

Making a wiring loom.

Got the original wiring diagram for a 1954 Morris minor out of my workshop manual. It took a while to made one out of that mess. Had to add the turn signal wiring as the wee pickup didn’t come with any. In the finish it came out the same as the wiring diagram I had. All the coloured wires going to the right places so if anything goes wrong it can be easily followed.

Oops

Unfortunately I was a wee bit heavy on the paint and got a run under the window. Will have the wait a few weeks and give the paint time to dry properly before sanding and then a final coat should fix the problem.

Dash

Dash all painted and put back together.

Checking if the back fits.

Just sat the back in place with two bolts to make sure it fits. Still need to drill and fit the rubber moulding between the cab and the back.

Heater added.

Heater added.

John had been given a heater but had never had the time to put it in. I had  to cut the parcel tray to get it in but to me it is an essential to have one in Southland.
